On Thursday, April 4, 2019 the K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital will host the red carpet event – Autism in Love Completing the Puzzle, to kick off Autism Awareness Month. We ask that you share this with the appropriate special education students’ family.
The evening event for teens with Autism Spectrum Disorder will feature speakers Dave Hamrick and Lindsey Nebeker from the documentary Autism in Love, and highlight scenes about their journey of finding love and navigating through life. They will provide information on their life experiences in regards to their childhood, education, career and relationships along the way. The event is an opportunity for teens and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families to participate in a social event with peers that fosters relationship building, learn about emotions related to relationships, view the real lives of adults living with autism and gather and connect to local resources in preparation for a teen’s journey to adulthood.
Dave Hamrick is a meteorologist for the National Weather Service. Lindsey Nebeker is an artist, musician, and Autism advocate who works at the Autism Society of America. They have been described as the Autism community’s power couple. They met in 2005 at an Autism conference in Nashville. They proceeded to date long distance for 2 years before living closer and marrying in 2015. They have been featured in Glamour, NBC News, Autism Spectrum Quarterly and MTV.
