Please join us for a private screening of a new documentary and conversation around employment for adults with autism and disabilities.
The 30-minute film follows the stories of six individuals who have overcome obstacles and individual challenges to discover success and fulfillment working at a special purpose company called Extraordinary Ventures.
The message these people have gotten all their lives is you don’t have the skills to work; you won’t have a meaningful job. But, look at them now!
Employment is such a vital factor in terms of self-esteem, pride and confidence. Yet, for this population, real paid-employment opportunities are scarce. It is incumbent on us all to become more accepting and find new ways to create meaningful work.
The stories in Extraordinary People show what can happen when an employer is flexible, and the jobs and the businesses are designed around interests and skills of the people that sometimes are not obvious.
Panel discussion to follow the film.
The New Jersey Autism Center of Excellence along with [words] Bookstore are pleased to be hosting this event.
